Association for Pathology Informatics (API) as a Cooperating Society<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

TAMPA, Fla., (August 21, 2024) – The Trustees of the American Board of Pathology (ABPath) are pleased to announce that the Association for Pathology Informatics (API) <\/a>has been approved as a Cooperating Society of the ABPath. The addition of API as an ABPath Cooperating Society was approved at the ABPath Board of Trustees Summer 2024 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n

The API is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to advance pathology informatics. Pathology Informatics has been increasing in importance as the demand for, and development of, information systems and technology continue to address healthcare industry needs. Beginning with the collection, processing, and analysis of patient specimens, the field of pathology, as a whole, generates significant amounts of data that require careful interpretation and reliable distribution to fulfill the core mission of supporting patient care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its founding in 2000, API has successfully carved its reputation among laboratory medicine and pathology informatics specialists as a society run by and for the people at the forefront of the field. Many are deeply involved in API and much of what happens behind the scenes at API involves the \u201csleeves-up, hands-on\u201d participation of institutional and industry leaders. API\u2019s unique grass-roots collaboration has successfully launched key annual API programs like the PI Summit and the Digital Pathology and AI Workshops (DP-AI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABPath collaborates with its Cooperating Societies to identify and address issues of importance to the profession of pathology. Through these valuable relationships, Cooperating Societies support diplomates in their life-long learning and improvement in practice, their participation in Continuing Certification, and documenting their participation in educational and quality assessment activities. Cooperating Societies of the ABPath also serve in an advisory capacity to the Board regarding issues pertaining to training, education, and certification in Pathology. The Trustees seek input and advice from Cooperating Societies on an ad hoc basis and at the annual spring meeting of the Board of Trustees. The Trustees also solicit nominees from the Cooperating Societies for candidates to fill open Trustee positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
